March to June 2012

Well it's way past time to update what's been going on with the Barkers, and since February a lot has happened, it's been a very eventful 2012.

MARCH

We caught a big case of March Madness at our house.
Jesse played basketball all spring in an Ogden league and a few tournaments, they took care of business, winning most games and tournaments, I think they ended up with a record of 23-1.  Hopefully they will stick together and only keep getting better, because they are a fun team to watch.

Mackenzee and Will both played Red Devil Basketball, and it was fun following them around all season, they mostly played same day, same place, which made it easy to watch them both.

The Lady Red Devils played in the Regional Championship, took second, and then played for third at the State Tournament, they lost, but were happy with the success they had, given recent years.

Will and the boys had a great, practically perfect, season.
Finished the regular season as Conference Champs.
Won the Regional Tournament, making them Region Champs.
Finally the Red Devils, with a lot of character and heart, won the State Championship game in triple overtime!
Making them the State Champions! Defeating the Campbell County Camels.
It was so, so thrilling, and so, so hard to watch for this mom at least, I spent a lot of the game pacing (Zoe gave me a great excuse). It couldn't have happened to a greater or more deserving group of boys.  LOVE THEM.

That's Will holding the bracket :)

Even Mia had a case of the madness!
Love this picture.

APRIL

Mackenzee went to 2 proms this year, Lyman's and then her own Junior Prom.

With Branson Bradshaw.

With Taylor Seimers.

With her Brother and Cousin JJ and their dates.
(Isaac, Mandi, and Taylor)

In April I got to go on 2 vacations.
Randy and I took Will on a 'Senior Trip' with his friend Isaac and his parents.  It was a cruise to the Western Carribean, we left from New Orleans, through the Gulf, down to Mexico, Belize, and Hondorus.  It was a great trip, especially for the 18 year olds!

My second trip was a 'Girls trip' to Branson, Missouri, with my mom, sisters, aunt, and cousins.  We had a great time, it was hard for me to leave after I had just got home, but I was so glad I did.  We saw a bunch of shows, Libby even got up on stage :)

This remided me of Toy Story 2

MAY

Track season is basically May, it does start in April, but the weather rarely cooperates consistently in April, or May for that matter.  Jesse had a great track season, coming just a tenth of a second from breaking the EMS 7th grade school record in the 100 and 200 hurdles.  He went to the "Best of the Best" meet at the end of the season and finished 2nd in both the hurdles. We are looking forward to watching him the next 5 years!

You may want to mute this before you watch, if not, don't mind the crazy mother yelling for her son.

Mackenzee also had a great track season.  She qualified for State in the 400m individual, and then her 4 x 100 relay team broke the school record, placed 2nd at Regionals, and 4th at State.  Her 4 x 400 team qualified for State at their first meet of the season, at Regionals they took 1st place, breaking the school record with a time of 4:02.35, then at State they broke their own record with a time of 4:00.19 in an exciting race beating Laramie, taking first, that's right another State Champion! Wow was it a great race to watch.

Zoe wanted to try on her medals.
"Horray for Gizmo!"

JUNE

The school year sadly comes to an end, sad because Will graduates June 2.

So proud of him and all he accomplished.  He is planning on filling our mission papers right away and leaving asap.

I really can't believe he is graduated, it went too fast.  I am missing him already.

Also in June Will had the opportunity to play in the Shrine Bowl, he was an alternate, and when his buddy Reece Bown opted to have surgery on his knee, a spot opened and he was called up.  He absolutely loved it, he told us it was the greatest week of his life.  He was voted to be one of four captains.  We got to go to the banquet and of course watch the game, which was yet another highlight.  The South, (Will's team) beat the North badly, setting the all-time Shrine Bowl scoring record. It was 42-6 at half time, ended 56-33 only because of a specific rule of the Shrine Bowl  Matt Eddington and Tyler Chandler from Evanston also played, plus some other friends of his from Lyman, Star Valley, and then of course the friends he made while there.

Captains, Will is #14, didn't get 'his' #13, Darn Wade :)

Congrats Sis!

Lyman High School Hall of Fame Inductee...........Shannon Buckner Hamblin. We are so proud, she was inducted this last Friday. It was very cool, and emotional for some of us. It has been fun taking a trip down memory lane as we were asked to gather the information to be announced and put on the award. I even learned a few things about her. The award was presented to her three kids, Josh, Hailey, and Paige. Her birthday is in a few weeks and I can't think of a better tribute to her than this. She was an awesome athlete, but an even better sister.....if they had a Hall of Fame for sisters I would be the first to nominate her, right along with 2 others!

February - 2012
Shannon Buckner was the model student athlete at Lyman High School.  An Honor Roll student all 4 years, she was very dedicated to her teammates and prideful school colors.
In volleyball, Shannon was a 4 year letter winner and the Setter on teams that had winning records each year.  As a sophomore, Shannon earned All Conference and Most Improved.
As a junior, the team had qualified for State and Shannon was named All State & All Conference and Co- MVP on the team.
As a senior, she led the team in winning Conference Championship, Districts & Regional Championship while the team took 5th place at State.  Shannon was the team’s MVP and was All Conference, All Regional & All State!
In basketball, Shannon was the point guard that led LHS to many exciting victories!  She was a 4 year letter winner and MVP her junior and senior year of the team.  She was All Conference for 3 years, All State her junior and senior year and was a key player in winning the State Championship Title in 1985!
As a senior, Shannon was nominated to play in the Summer Wyoming North-South All- Star Game at the University of Wyoming where she led the team in scoring.
Shannon lived up to her name while being a member of the 1982 Wyoming All - Star Basketball team that went to Europe to participate in the High School All Star Tour in Germany & Austria.  This 2 week tour was an opportunity for Shannon and her teammates to experience many cultures and meet many different types of people from all over the world while sharing a sport that bridged much international communication.
Due to Shannon’s outstanding academic and athletic career at LHS, Shannon was highly recruited by many colleges.  Shannon accepted a full ride scholarship for basketball and volleyball with Casper Junior College where she earned her Associates Degree in Business.
In Volleyball, Shannon was Region IX All Conference for 2 years and as a Setter, was part of the history that posted the best team record in the school history up to that point.  She was also the point guard on the women’s basketball team that qualified for the National JUCCO Tournament.
Shannon was a fun and funny teammate.  Known as “Buc”, her quick wit and jokester ways among teammates made each season memorable.  She was proud of her family and always looked out for her most favorite teammate - little sis, Janet, known as “Little Buc,” who was also a gifted and talented teammate and student –athlete.

Shannon prioritized her school activities and always kept family first.  She was active in her Church Ward and never missed an opportunity to make people feel special.  Using her clever humor and quick wit were methods of how she would communicate effectively and make people feel comfortable.
Shannon Buckner Hamblin was truly a “Lady Eagle” that soared so high and accomplished much in her young life.    Shannon belongs in LHS’s Hall of Fame as her spirit remains in the halls of LHS!
Her pride shows and her pride glows!

Growing boys:0)

So I thought I'd share my laugh of the day.........hopefully Jesse will not mind too much, I'm sure he was horrified, he hates the thought of looking silly.

Anyway this is the text I got.................

"I need a pair of jeans, i put on bridgers pair on accident. they don't fit."

Funny thing is they do fit around the waist (probably why he didn't notice right away) just about 6 inches too short!

Merr "E" Christmas!

I feel like I should clarify the "E" Christmas.....meaning our world is Evanston Athletics, E town, Go Red Devils, whether we are the players or the fans, so there ya go Mackenzee didn't seem to get it right away, I thought it was pretty clever.

I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season.  It used to be I was like my Mia, "Christmas takes soooooo long to get here!"  but anymore it comes so fast, almost seems like a sidenote for me with how busy we are with everything else, "and oh yeah we need to remember Christmas,"  I did manage to get our tree up, a little decorating done, and cards ordered and some sent (the Merr "E" Christmas ones).  Thanks to my kids it has still been magical.  We've had some fun Christmas parties, Zoe is good with Santa, and went to temple square, which we missed last year, and I really did miss it, LOVE IT and I love that my kids love it.

As far as what we have been up since our last post...................

Well Red Devil Football is over (tear), Lady Devil Volleyball is over (tear), EMS football & basketball is already over (tear), hunting is not over (tear), jk  I know they love it, but it doesn't hurt my feelings when they just don't seem to get the time to go get 4 antelope, 4 deer, and 4 elk!  Will turned 18 and Zoe turned 2 in September, Bridger turned 11 in October, and Jesse just turned 13.  Mackenzee is 16 and Mia will be 8 in a couple of weeks. Mia is just absorbing every little thing about Christmas, I love her and her attitude, Will thinks she can be a little whiny, but who can blame her with 3 big brothers!  Randy calls her little Janet, so she must be angelic right?!  She can hardly wait to be baptized, and it just happens to work out that the stake baptism is on her birthday, so she is sooooo excited.

EHS basketball has begun, and that will keep us busy with both Will and Kenz playing until about the middle of March,  which will be about time to post again.

Just one of Will's Senior Pics (So Handsome!)

Oh what we did in this summertime........

Will, Jesse, and Bridger played baseball
and the rest of us watched baseball.
Will also had his first baptism! And we all helped with his Eagle project.
(Thank you everyone!!!)
Rock baskets are now in place preventing the erosion of a foundation of a Pony Express Station near the Muddy Crossing, FYI

Jesse helped dock lambs, along with the rest of the boys, if you don't know about the event, you probably don't want to, trust me.
Again, Mia watching a game.
Zoe enjoyed feeding the bums, no really she did.
Grandma and Grandpa even had a bum calf this year.
Bridger dominated floating the creek, Randy didn't.
Sweet 16 Mackenzee got a puppy, not a car, for her birthday.
Grandpa took her on her first official date!
Meet Chucho, Chu Barker, or Chuee.
And as for Randy...................
We call him President Barker now.
(He was put in the Evanston South Stake Presidency, 2nd Counselor, at the end of June)
So what are you doing for the next 9 years?:)
(I'd like to thank Hailey for some of the great pictures, we loved having her and Meg around the month of July.)
